ABSTRACT

@#Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly contagious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). More than one-third of patients with COVID-19 experience neurological symptoms, including confusion, headaches, and decreased/disordered taste. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a slowly progressive neurodegenerative disease and the most common type of dementia. Alzheimer's disease patients are at high risk and susceptible to infection with COVID-19, which may cause severe illness and even death. There appears to be an interaction between AD and COVID-19, and on the one hand, patients with COVID-19 seem to be more likely to develop AD. AD patients, on the other hand, may be more susceptible to severe COVID-19. Therefore, understanding the common link between COVID-19 and AD may help to develop treatment strategies. Risk factors common to AD and COVID-19 are aging, ApoE ε4 allele, β-amyloid (Aβ) deposition, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), neuroinflammation, oxidative stress. Here, this article focuses on the relationship between COVID-19 and AD, explores common risk factors and potential pathogenesis, and provides help for early prevention, treatment and recovery.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To establish reference values for carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) of adult dwellers in Shenzhen City. Methods: The study was conducted based on the Shenzhen heart failure epidemiological survey from 2021 to 2022. In this survey, residents aged 18 years and above in Shenzhen were selected by using a multi-stage stratified random sampling method. General information, cardiovascular disease (CVD) related behavior and carotid ultrasound examination and etc. were collected from the participants. People with CVD factors, a history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, carotid plaque or having no carotid ultrasound examination results were excluded. The parameter regression model based on fractional polynomial was used to establish the reference values of CIMT by age and sex. Results: A total of 2 163 healthy individuals were enrolled in the final analysis, including 576 males (26.6%) and 1 587 females (73.4%). The fractional polynomial regression of the CIMT mean and standard deviation was obtained. For men, the regression was meanCIMT=0.324 7+0.006 9×age and SDCIMT=0.076 9+0.001 2×age. For women, the regression was meanCIMT=0.354 9+0.005 4×age and SDCIMT=0.041 6+0.002 0×age. Conclusion: The age and sex reference values for CIMT of adult people in Shenzhen established in this study could provide the latest reference standards for early screening of subclinical CVD.

ABSTRACT

To analyze the molecular characteristics of strains from ready-to eat food in China. A total of 239 strains isolated from ready-to-eat food in 2017, all strains underwent whole-genome sequencing (WGS) , and comparisons uncovered population structure derived from lineages, clonal complex, serogroups, antimicrobial susceptibility and virulence, which were inferred in silico from the WGS data. Core genome multilocus sequence typing was used to subtype isolates. All strains were categorized into three different lineages, lineage Ⅱ was the predominant types in food, and IIa was the main serogroups. CC8, CC101 and CC87 were the first three prevalent CCs among 23 detected CCs, accounting for 49.4%. Only 4.6% (11 isolates) of tested strains harbored antibiotic resistance genes, which were mostly trimethoprim genes (7 isolates, 2.9%). All strains were positive for LIPI-1, and only a part of strains harbored LIPI-3 and LIPI-4, accounting for 13.8% (33 isolates) and 14.2% (34 isolates), respectively. ST619 carried both LIPI-3 and LIPI-4. 51.5% (123 isolates) of strains carried SSI-1, and all CC121 strains harbored SSI-2. Different lineages, serogroups and CCs can be separated obviously through cgMLST analysis, and 24 sublineages were highly concordant with CCs. Ⅱa was the main serogroups in ready-to-eat food isolates in China; CC8, CC101 and CC87 were the prevalent CCs, and CC87 isolates was hypervirulent isolates, cgMLST method can be adopted for prospective foodborne disease surveillance and outbreaks detection.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the application value of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia in mitral valve replacement. Methods:A total of 94 patients who underwent mitral valve replacement in our hospital (October 2016-October 2018) were randomly divided into the control group ( n=47) and the observation group ( n=47). The control group received target-controlled infusion of propofol, and the observation group inhaled sevoflurane. The postoperative conditions [intensive care unit (ICU) stay time, extubation time of tracheal tube, spontaneous cardiac rebound], hemodynamic indexes [mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR)], serum creatine phosphokinase isoenzyme (CK-MB), cardiac troponin I (cTnI), malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the two groups were analyzed. The patients were followed up for one month. The incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) was calculated. Results:⑴ Postoperative situation: the time of stay in ICU and extubation of tracheal tube in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group, and the rate of spontaneous cardiac rebound (93.62%) was higher than that in the control group (72.34%) ( P<0.05); ⑵ Hemodynamic index level: there was no statistically significant difference in MAP and HR levels between two groups before operation, before cardiopulmonary bypass, after cardiopulmonary bypass, and after operation ( P>0.05); ⑶ CK-MB and cTnI: the levels of serum CK-MB and cTnI in the two groups were higher at 2, 6, 24, and 48 h after aortic cross-clamp release than before anesthesia induction, but the indicators of the observation group were lower than those in the control group; ⑷ MDA and SOD: the serum SOD level in the two groups at 2, 6, 24, and 48 h after aortic cross-clamp release were lower than before anesthesia induction, and the MDA level in the two groups at 2, 6, 24, and 48 h after aortic cross-clamp release were higher than before anesthesia induction. The level of SOD in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, and the level of MDA was lower than that in the control group ( P<0.05); ⑸ MACE: the incidence of MACE in the observation group (12.77%) was lower than that of the control group (29.79%) ( P<0.05). Conclusions:During mitral valve replacement, sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia can maintain hemodynamic stability. The duration of ICU stay and tracheal tube extubation time is shorter, and the fluctuation of serum CK-MB, cTnI, MDA and SOD is small, and it can reduce the risk of MACE.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#This study aimed to explore the protective effect of procyanidin B2 (PCB2) on acute liver injury induced by aflatoxin B (AFB ) in rats.@*Methods@#Forty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into control, AFB , AFB + PCB2, and PCB2 groups. The latter two groups were administrated PCB2 intragastrically (30 mg/kg body weight) for 7 d, whereas the control and AFB groups were given the same dose of double distilled water intragastrically. On the sixth day of treatment, the AFB and AFB + PCB2 groups were intraperitoneally injected with AFB (2 mg/kg). The control and PCB2 groups were intraperitoneally administered the same dose of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). On the eighth day, all rats were euthanized: serum and liver tissue were isolated for further examination. Hepatic histological features were assessed by hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections. Weight, organ coefficient (liver, spleen, and kidney), liver function (serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, and direct bilirubin), oxidative index (catalase, glutathione, superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde, and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine), inflammation factor [hepatic interleukin-6 (IL-6) mRNA expression and serum IL-6], and bcl-2/bax ratio were measured.@*Results@#AFB significantly caused hepatic histopathological damage, abnormal liver function, oxidative stress, inflammation, and bcl-2/bax ratio reduction compared with DMSO-treated controls. Our results indicate that PCB2 treatment can partially reverse the adverse liver conditions induced by AFB .@*Conclusion@#Our findings indicate that PCB2 exhibits a protective effect on acute liver injury induced by AFB .

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the outcomes and to find out the influence factors of indirect pulp treatment in primary teeth.@*METHODS@#Children who received indirect pulp treatment in primary teeth in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from August, 2014 to September, 2016 were collected in the Electronic Medical Record Database of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, via the database for scientific research provided by the corporation of Kaientai. The children selected as the subjects of this study were followed up over 1.5 years, and they were under 9 years old if in the group of primary molars while the children in the group of primary anterior teeth were under 4 and a half years old. Those children who were not reviewed regularly or didn't have complete medical records were removed. Basic information, the relevant medical records and radiographic records of those children were collected. All teeth were examined clinically and classified into 2 outcomes, teeth in group H were regarded as succeeded, and teeth in group P were regarded as failed. Survival analysis was applied. The survival rate and survival time of the deciduous teeth calculated. Multivariate analysis was performed by using Cox proportional hazard model.@*RESULTS@#One hundred and six children were finally included, aged from 1.6 to 8.8 years, with the mean age of (5.0±1.7) years. 168 primary teeth (122 primary molars, 46 primary anterior teeth) were included, and the average follow up time was (729±244) days. Thirty-five primary teeth (23 primary molars, 12 primary anterior teeth) failed upon clinical or radiographic examinations by September, 2018. The cumulative survival probability of half a year, one year, one year and a half, two years, two and a half years for the indirect pulp treatment was 93.5%, 92.9%, 87.5%, 82.7%, and 75.5% through the KaplanMeier method, respectively. Through the analysis of Cox proportional hazard model, in primary molars, the survival probability tended to be lower when the number of tooth surface affected by caries was greater (OR=1.709, P<0.05). Compared with primary molars, the survival probability of primary anterior teeth was lower, but the difference was not significant.@*CONCLUSION@#Complying the current instructions in our department, the cumulative survival probability of two and a half years after the indirect pulp treatment in primary teeth was 75.5%. In primary molars, the survival probability tended to be lower when the number of tooth surfaces affected by caries increased.

ABSTRACT

Periprosthetic joint infection is the most serious complication after artificial joint arthroplasty. Epidemiological investigation has indicated that perioperative anemia is an independent risk factor for periprosthetic joint infection, which could play an important role by suppressing cellular mechanisms and autoimmune functions. Many domestic and overseas scholars have studied the relationship between periprosthetic joint infection and postoperative anemia, but the relationship between preoperative anemia and periprosthetic joint infection is relatively rare. However, preoperative anemia can reduce the C3b receptor on surface of red blood cells, decrease immune function of the body, increase blood-borne infection, prolong postoperative rehabilitation time, and lead to periprosthetic joint infection. For patients with preoperative anemia, prophylactic antibiotics could be used to prevent. And complement chalybeate used before operation, correct anemia by hemopoietin, treat chronic complications influence by hemoglobin production and improve patient's own immune status, blood transfusion treatment for patients with blood transfusion indications are performed. It could be better prevent occurrence of periprosthetic joint infection after total joint arthroplasty, and reducing chance of secondary or multiple renovations.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>Shellfish are recognized as important vehicles of norovirus-associated gastroenteritis. The present study aimed to monitor norovirus contamination in oysters along the farm-to-fork continuum in Guangxi, a major oyster production area in Southwestern China.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Oyster samples were collected monthly from farms, markets, and restaurants, from January to December 2016. Norovirus was detected and quantified by one-step reverse transcription-droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (RT-ddPCR).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A total of 480 oyster samples were collected and tested for norovirus genogroups I and II. Norovirus was detected in 20.7% of samples, with genogroup II predominating. No significant difference was observed in norovirus prevalence among different sampling sites. The norovirus levels varied widely, with a geometric mean of 19,300 copies/g in digestive glands. Both norovirus prevalence and viral loads showed obvious seasonality, with a strong winter bias.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>This study provides a systematic analysis of norovirus contamination 'from the farm to the fork' in Guangxi. RT-ddPCR can be a useful tool for detection and quantification of low amounts of norovirus in the presence of inhibitors found particularly in foodstuffs. This approach will contribute to the development of strategies for controlling and reducing the risk of human illness resulting from shellfish consumption.</p>

ABSTRACT

Autoimmune liver disease is a refractory disease clinically, and there is no particularly effective drug at present. Therefore, it is of important clinical value to develop new effective intervention drugs for the prevention and treatment of autoimmune liver disease. In order to investigate the potential protective effect of artesunate (Art) on concanavalin A (Con A)-induced autoimmune liver injury, different doses of Art (27, 54, 108 mg·kg⁻¹) were orally administered to mice for consecutive 7 days, respectively. Then the Con A was injected into mice via tail vein to induce liver injury models. 8 h after modeling, the mice were sacrificed. The serum and liver tissue were collected for detecting the level of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate transaminase (AST), liver pathological histopathology, inflammatory cytokines and nuclear factor (NF-κB) key protein expression level. The results showed that 108 mg·kg⁻¹ Art remarkably reduced Con A-induced liver indexes and serum transaminase levels (ALT and AST) as compared with model group(<0.01). Meanwhile, the liver histopathological changes were obviously alleviated with a significant decrease of pro-inflammatory cytokine including tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), interferon (IFN-γ), interleukin (IL-6), IL-17 and a higher increase of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 (<0.01). Western blot results showed that 108 mg·kg⁻¹ Art markedly inhibited the expressions of p-p65 and p-IκBα proteins (<0.01). The specific inhibitor of NF-κB, pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (PDTC) could also significantly inhibit the expressions of p-p65 and p-IκBα with and alleviate liver injuries. Therefore, our results indicated that Art may have a protective action against Con A-induced autoimmune liver injury mainly by suppressing NF-κB signal pathway in mice. The study provides scientific reference for artesunate usage in preventing autoimmune liver injury.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the two-year outcomes of primary molars pulpotomy using mineral trioxided aggregate (MTA) and to find out the potential influence factor, with the help of electronic medical record database.@*METHODS@#Children who received primary molars pulpotomy in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from May, 2014 to November, 2015 were searched in the Electronic Medical Record Database of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, via the database for scientific research provided by the corporation of Kaientai. The children who were healthy, no more than 8 years old and followed up over 1.5 years were selected as the subjects of this study. At the same time, those children who didn't have complete medical records and X-rays before and after treatment were removed. Basic information, the relevant medical records and radiographic records of those children were collected. All molars were examined clinically and radiographically, and classified into 1 of 5 outcomes: N, H, P0, PX, PY. Molars classified into P0, PX and PY were regarded as failed. Survival analysis was applied. The survival rate and survival time of the deciduous teeth were calculated.Multivariate analysis was performed by using Cox proportional hazard model.@*RESULTS@#One hundred and fifteen children were finally included, aged from 2.6 to 8.2 years, with the mean age of (4.5±1.1) years. 211 primary molars were included, and the average follow up time was (880±154) days. A good level of agreement between the raters was found for molars with five outcomes(κ=0.913). Intrarater reliability was good for molars with five outcomes (κ=0.916). Forty-nine molars failed by September, 2017. Forty-three molars had abnormal radiographic manifestation. Six molars suffered premature loss. Only fourteen molars had an associated gingival swelling or parulis, or pathologic mobility upon clinical examination. The cumulative survival probability of half a year, one year, one year and a half, two years, two year and a half for the pulpotomy was 100%, 98.5%, 92.9%, 90.5%,73.8% through the Kaplan-Meier method, respectively. Through the analysis of Cox proportional hazard model, the survival probability was significantly higher when the age was younger. When sodium hypochlorite and the saline were used as the irrigation at the same time, the survival probability was not improved for those teeth with more bleeding in the operation compared with that used saline only. The teeth with preformed metal crown (PMC) gained longer median survival time than those restored with resin composite and others, but the difference was not significant, either. What's more, gender, the restoration time of PMC, the restoration of the opposite teeth were not found to be associated with the success of the treatment.@*CONCLUSION@#The cumulative survival probability of two years after the primary pulpotomy was 90.5%, complying the current instructions in our department. The survival probability of the molars after the treatment was significantly affected by the age.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on post-stroke dysphagia. Methods Cochrane Library (CENTRAL), Medline, EMBASE, CBMdisc, VIP, CNKI and WANFANG Digital Journals were searched to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about transcranial direct current stimulation for post-stroke dysphagia until February 2018. Two researchers independently screened literature, extracted data and evaluated the quality of the included studies. Then, meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results A total of eight RCTs were screened, including 225 patients. Compared to the control group, tDCS was effective on post-stroke dysphagia (SMD=0.71, 95%CI: 0.32~1.10, P<0.001) with safety. Conclusion tDCS could improve swallowing function of post-stroke dysphagia. Due to the limited quantity and quality of the included studies, more high quality studies are needed.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the key issues and future trends of transitional care. Methods CNKI, the Wanfang Database, VIP and SinoMed from 2002 to 2018 were searched with words of"Transitional Care", and BICOBM2.0 was used to extract high frequency words and form the co-word matrix, and gCLUTO1.0 was used to do cluster analysis, to create matrix visualization and mountain visualization. Results A total of 5376 articles were retrieved, and 12931 subject terms were extracted, and 29 high frequency key words were obtained. The key issues of these studies were: transitional care used in anxiety and depression;transitional care used in rehabilitation;transitional care used in improving the quality of life of old people with chronic diseases; transitional care used in improving the self-care ability and of health behavior of people with chronic diseases;information technology used in transitional care. Conclusion Researches of transitional care in China are developing rapidly and the fields are growing well. The research on anxiety, depression, rehabilitation of stroke and quality of life has been mature, and there still have expansion capacity for transitional care in self-care ability, health behavior and informatization.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of Qishen Xiaodian Decoction combined with laser acupoint irradiation for treatment of recurrent Hen?ch-Sch?nlein purpura (HSP) in children. Methods Totally 120 cases of children with recurrent HSP were divided into treatment group and control group according to the digital random table method, with 60 cases in each group. The control group was given anti-allergy, hormones, immunosuppressive agents and other conventional treatment for 4 weeks, while the treatment group was treated with Qishen Xiaodian Decoction based on conventional treatment, 1 dose each day, morning and night (age 4–5 take 1/3 dose, age >5–10 take the half dose, and age >10–14 take the whole dose), for 4 weeks. Zusanli, Xuehai, and Sanyinjiao acupoints were under laser vertical irradiation, 12 min for each time, once a day for 2 weeks. The disappearing time of the main symptoms and the total effective rate of the two groups were compared. Peripheral blood contents of Th17 and Treg cells and serum interleukin-17 (IL-17), and transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) level before and after the treatment were observed. The recurrence rate in 6 months and in 12 months of the two groups were compared. Results The disappearing time of rash, abdominal pain and joint swelling pain and kidney damage of the treatment group were less than those of the control group (P<0.01). The total effective rate was 95%(57/60) in treatment group, significantly higher than control group 80% (48/60), with statistical significance (P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, Th17 cell content, serum IL-17 and TGF-β1 decreased, and Treg cell content increased after treatment of the two groups (P<0.01). Compared with the control group, contents of Th17 cell and serum IL-17 of the treatment group decreased (P<0.01). The recurrence rate was lower than that of the control group in 6 and 12 months after treatment, with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion Based on the conventional western medicine treatment, Qishen Xiaodian Decoction combined with laser acupoint irradiation on recurrent HSP in children can quickly relieve symptoms and reduce the recurrence rate.
